Mokena Renews Traffic Signal Maintenance Contract at Reduced Cost

The Village of Mokena has extended its traffic signal maintenance contract for another year, securing the service at a lower cost after the number of signals under its jurisdiction was reduced.

On June 9, the Village Board approved a one-year extension with H&H Electric Company of Franklin Park for Fiscal Year 2026. The total cost of the contract is $17,905.92, which is below the $25,200 budgeted for the work in the Motor Fuel Tax Account.

Public Works Director Dan Peloquin explained that the cost reduction was possible because the Will County Department of Highway recently took over maintenance responsibilities for three signalized intersections: 191st Street & 88th Avenue, 191st Street & Hickory Creek Drive, and Townline Road & Francis Road.

This change reduces the number of signals maintained by H&H Electric for the village from 11 to eight, lowering the monthly cost to $1,492.16.

The contract covers routine monthly checks of timing, detectors, electrical components, and the alignment of signal heads. Peloquin noted that H&H Electric has been the village’s current contractor and has performed its duties well. Any extra work not included in the contract, such as emergency callouts or damage repairs, is paid for on a time-and-material basis. The board approved the extension unanimously.
