New HVAC, Bleachers, and Lighting Among Recent Park District Upgrades
Visitors to Mokena Park District facilities are being greeted by a series of recent upgrades, including a new high-efficiency HVAC system, state-of-the-art lighting at the Yunker Park Bandshell, and new bleachers at The Oaks Recreation & Fitness Center.
Superintendent of Parks and Facilities Jim VanGennep detailed the improvements in a report to the board on July 25.
At the Administration Center, Maertin Heating & Cooling completed the replacement of a more than 30-year-old HVAC system. The new, higher-efficiency American Standard system is expected to save the district on energy costs. “It works wonderfully!” VanGennep said in his report.
The Yunker Park Bandshell now features new lighting installed by Excel Electric. The system includes a 25-color scheme, security lights, and front lights, enhancing the venue for concerts and events.
At The Oaks, staff are in the process of replacing the old bleachers in the north fieldhouse. VanGennep called the new bleachers a “much needed improvement to the original fieldhouse.”
Several other projects are in the works. The district is preparing bid specifications for repairs to walking paths and parking lots at Grasmere and Greenmeadows Parks. Work is also underway on a new card reader system for the Mokena Dog Park, which staff hopes will be functional in the next several weeks.
