District 159 Approves $173,700 Window Shade Replacement Project for Summer 2026
MOKENA, Ill. – The Mokena School District 159 Board of Education has authorized the district to seek proposals for a large-scale window shade replacement project at three schools, slated for completion during the summer of 2026.
At its meeting Wednesday, the board approved a total project cost budget of $173,700 and the issuance of a Request for Proposal (RFP). The project involves removing existing window treatments and installing new roller shades in classrooms and offices at Mokena Elementary School, Mokena Intermediate School, and Mokena Junior High School.
According to a proposal from Wold Architects and Engineers, the new shades are intended to provide “enhanced daylight control and improved security.”
The budget breakdown from Wold includes $72,200 for Mokena Elementary, $24,100 for the Intermediate School, and $48,400 for the Junior High, totaling $144,700 in construction costs. The overall $173,700 budget also includes an additional $29,000 for fees, testing, and contingency funds.
The board also approved a payment of $12,805 to Wold for its work in developing the project scope and budget. This fee is calculated as 8.85% of the estimated construction cost.
The district anticipates releasing the RFP in October 2025 and awarding a bid at its November or December 2025 meeting. The project, identified as a need in the district’s Capital Improvement Plan, will be funded out of Fund 21.
