Mokena Village Board Meeting | September 8, 2025

The Mokena Village Board on Monday, September 8, 2025, unanimously approved a major overhaul of its police ticketing system, raising fines for many non-traffic violations for the first time in over 15 years to better align with neighboring towns. For a full report on the specific fine increases, read the main story here. The board also awarded nearly $300,000 in contracts for road maintenance and project oversight and appointed a new Village Arborist.

In other business, the board approved a settlement agreement related to the Boulder Ridge subdivision, clearing the way for the next phase of development. Proclamations were read for “National See Tracks? Think Train Week” and “Constitution Week,” and annual fundraising sales for local Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops were approved.

Proclamations Recognize Train Safety and Constitution Week
The board approved two proclamations presented by Village Clerk Melissa Martini. The week of September 15-21 was declared “National See Tracks? Think Train Week” to promote rail safety awareness. Additionally, the week of September 17-23 was proclaimed “Constitution Week,” with resident Jim Schlegel encouraging the public to visit Constitution Hall in Pennsylvania to view the historic document in person.

Scout Sales Approved
The board granted permission for two annual fundraising drives. The Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana will be allowed to conduct door-to-door sales for their fall product and cookie programs from September 2025 through January 2026, followed by booth sales through April 2026. Boy Scout Troops 40 & 41 were approved to sell tickets door-to-door for their annual Spaghetti Dinner from September 9 through October 18, 2025.

Blood Drive Announced
During public comments, Mokena resident Jim Schlegel announced a community blood drive scheduled for September 27 in the Barrington Square subdivision. He invited the public to attend and emphasized the importance of donating blood.

Monthly Bills Paid
