Article Summary: The Village of Mokena has filled two key roles in its Public Works Department following board approval of the appointments of Keaten Luchene as a Maintenance I Worker and Kevin Taylor as an Interim Assistant Mechanic. Both new appointees were present at the meeting and thanked the board for the opportunity.

Public Works Appointments Key Points:

  • Keaten Luchene was hired for the full-time position of Maintenance I Worker in the Streets and Grounds Division.

  • Kevin Taylor, a village employee since 2002, was appointed to the role of Interim Assistant Mechanic.

The Mokena Village Board on Monday, October 13, 2025, officially appointed two individuals to new roles within the Public Works Department. Keaten Luchene was hired as a Maintenance I Worker, and veteran village employee Kevin Taylor was appointed Interim Assistant Mechanic.

Public Works Director Dan Peloquin introduced both candidates to the board. He explained that the Maintenance I position in the Streets and Grounds Division became available after a recent internal promotion. Luchene was selected after an interview process, bringing extensive experience in road maintenance and snow plowing operations from his previous work with both Will and Washington Townships.

Taylor, who has worked for Mokena since 2002, is stepping into the interim role to support the village’s head mechanic while the current assistant mechanic is on extended medical leave. Peloquin noted that Taylor has already been voluntarily assisting with vehicle maintenance duties.

After the board unanimously approved their appointments, both men addressed the trustees.

“I appreciate the opportunity. I look forward to learning some more and I look forward to getting to know my fellow co-workers and getting to know the people of the town,” Luchene said.

Taylor also expressed his gratitude. “I just want to say thank you guys so much for the opportunity. I’m super grateful. Me and my family have been looking forward to this moment for a long time.”
