Library Explores New IT and Copier Services Amid Equipment Failures

Spread the love

The Library is evaluating an overhaul of its technology services, exploring new providers for both IT support and its public-facing print management system due to ongoing equipment failures.

During Tuesday’s board meeting, library management reported persistent problems with the credit card reader on its current public copiers, which has not been resolved despite multiple service calls.

“Luke Surdel, Matt Surdel, and Ms. Palmer have been working closely with the library’s current copier provider over the past several months to explore improvements,” Executive Director Cathy Palmer stated in her report. “The primary issue has been the repeated malfunctioning of the credit card reader.”

As a result, the library is in discussions with alternative vendors and anticipates finalizing a more reliable solution within the next few months.

Simultaneously, the library is considering a transition to a new IT service provider. One company under review is ISBS, which currently holds the library’s copier contract. This existing relationship could streamline technology management. Operations Manager Matt Surdel is actively contacting references to vet the quality of ISBS’s IT services.

A key point of discussion is that the company is not yet PCI compliant—a standard for handling credit card data—but has indicated it plans to achieve compliance by the end of the year. The board took no action, pending further staff research into the vendors.
