The Frankfort Township Board approved a 2.5% cost-of-living raise for its employees and discussed several major projects at its meeting on Monday, May 19. Supervisor Nick George announced that the township is continuing to remodel its Autumn Valley Senior Housing units, upgrading its maintenance garage, and preparing to seek bids for a new food pantry.

In other business, the board voted to recommend a special use permit for a new high-end bar and grill, Ace & Vine, to obtain a liquor license. Supervisor George also clarified for a resident that golf carts are not legal to operate on township roads, as Frankfort is a non-home rule entity bound by state law.

Here are other actions taken at the meeting:

Highway Department Prepares Levy: Highway Commissioner Bill Carlson informed the board that his department’s tax levy is ready for review at the June meeting. He also noted that the seasonal branch pickup program is ongoing but will conclude for the year on December 15 or after the first major snowplow event, whichever comes first.

Shredding Event Success Prompts Traffic Review: The township’s recent shredding event was highly popular, with Assessor Joe Kral reporting that over 200 cars participated. The high turnout created traffic flow challenges in the parking lot. Kral stated that the township will need to develop a plan to better guide traffic for future events to ensure safety and efficiency.

Judge Installs Newly Elected Officials: Trustee Dave Smith publicly thanked Judge Ben Braun for attending the meeting to formally install the township’s elected officials for their new terms. Smith also reminded the board about the upcoming 175th Township Birthday Celebration, a community event marking a major historical milestone for Frankfort.

Kiwanis Club Thanks Board: Judge Ben Braun, speaking on behalf of the local Kiwanis Club, thanked the board for allowing the organization to use the Township Hall for its meetings. The club meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Braun also expressed his approval of the ongoing cosmetic and structural improvements being made to township facilities.
