Man on pretrial release accused of murder
After reportedly violating curfew dozens of times while wearing an ankle monitor, a man on pretrial release for a felony gun case is now accused of killing another man on Chicago’s Far South Side.
CWB Chicago reports that John Perteet, 38, has been charged with first-degree murder in the July 11, 2025, slaying of 43-year-old Prince Johnson.
Perteet is the 12th person accused of killing or trying to kill someone in Chicago this year while on pretrial release.
ISP arrests man for aggravated sexual abuse
Illinois State Police have arrested a Du Quoin man for felony aggravated sexual abuse.
The Du Quoin Police Department and Perry Jackson County Child Advocacy Center requested ISP special agents to investigate possible sexual abuse of a minor involving Christopher B. Davis, 36, last December.

Holiday weekend impaired driving patrols
The Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and law enforcement agencies throughout the state are reminding the public about the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” safety campaign.
IDOT says there were 11 fatal crashes in Illinois over Labor Day weekend last year.
Anyone who sees an impaired driver on the road is urged to contact law enforcement.
