Public Works Director Dan Peloquin stated that the position became open following the promotion of Matt Cullen to Streets and Grounds Superintendent. The Arborist is a skilled union position responsible for leading projects and grants related to urban forestry, conducting tree assessments, supervising trimming and planting work throughout the village, and overseeing tree contractors. The position also assists with other maintenance activities and typically manages a snowplow route during the winter.
According to Peloquin, eight external candidates applied for the job. After a review of training, experience, and references, Hazek was determined to be the most qualified applicant.
The board approved the appointment in a 5-0 vote, with Trustee Melissa Fedora abstaining. After the vote, Mr. Hazek thanked the board for the opportunity. Several trustees personally welcomed him to the village and wished him luck in his new role.
