Illinois quick hits: State EPA looks to fund EV charging stations; Tax Foundation says mayor’s proposal would hinder employment;

State EPA looks to fund EV charging stations

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the purchase and installation of new Direct Current Fast Charging EV charging stations and alternating current charging stations at publicly accessible locations in Illinois. The taxpayer funds are being made available through the Rebuild Illinois capital plan for electric vehicle projects authorized under the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA). Additional funding will also be awarded to projects at a charging station location identified as an Equity Investment Eligible Community. The Illinois EPA will begin accepting applications on Monday, Nov. 17.

Tax Foundation says mayor’s proposal would hinder employment

The Tax Foundation says Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s recent revenue proposals would hurt the city. According to the tax policy nonprofit, Johnson’s proposed head tax would impede employment, and his social media tax would hinder innovation. The mayor said Thursday that he does not think it is unreasonable for companies with 100 or more employees to pay what he says is “their fair share.”

Kids cite risk, conflict for not wanting to take over parents’ business

A financial media company says nearly half of Illinois family business owners’ adult children say they do not plan to continue their parents’ enterprise. According to a survey by MarketBeat.com, 45% of the state’s family business heirs plan to walk away from their parents’ firms. The biggest reasons cited by respondents were different career interests, financial instability or risk, and conflicts within the family.
