Mokena Community Public Library District Board of Trustees Meeting | September 2025

Article Summary
The Mokena Community Public Library District will soon have updated landscaping after the Board of Trustees approved a proposal from Infinity Landscaping. The project will replace existing flowers with native plants and add fresh mulch to planting beds near the front of the library, with the work scheduled for completion before winter.

Library Landscaping Project Key Points:

  • The board unanimously approved a landscaping proposal from Infinity Landscaping.

  • The project includes installing native plants and mulch on the sides of the ramp and in the area by the north-facing stairs.

  • The decision follows a review by library staff and the lawn care provider, which found several planting beds to be in “poor shape.”

  • The project is expected to be completed before the winter season begins.

MOKENA, Il. – The grounds of the Mokena Community Public Library District are set for an upgrade after the Board of Trustees approved a landscaping proposal during its meeting on September 23. The board voted unanimously to hire Infinity Landscaping to refresh several planting beds with native plants and new mulch.

The project will focus on the areas along the accessibility ramp and in front of the north-facing stairs. According to a report from Executive Director Cathy Palmer, she and staff member Ken Schultz recently met with the lawn care provider to assess the library’s grounds. “Many areas are in poor shape and require cleanup and new plantings,” the report stated.

Palmer presented photos of the suggested native plants to the trustees. The proposal aims to enhance the library’s curb appeal and introduce hardier, low-maintenance plantings.

Treasurer Alvin Kempf, Jr. made a motion to approve the project, which was seconded by Vice President Kathy Lewandowski. The motion passed with a unanimous voice vote. The work is slated to be completed before winter arrives.
