The Mokena Community Park District Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at The Oaks Recreation & Fitness Center. The board moved forward with the annual tax levy process, setting a hearing for November to discuss a 4.9% extension increase. Commissioners also adapted to market conditions by opting to purchase two vans instead of a pricey bus and reviewed plans for a major fireworks celebration in 2026.
Master Plan Presentation:
Guest Tod Stanton from Design Perspectives gave a presentation regarding the district’s Master Plan. The board also recently completed a tour of district parks on October 14 to review recent projects and discuss future initiatives.
Halloween Hollow Success:
Staff reported that the annual Halloween Hollow event was a “huge success” despite excessive heat. Attendance estimates topped 8,000 people over the course of the event, which featured carnival rides, food trucks, and a special needs day.
New Staff Introduction:
The board formally introduced Sailor Morris, the district’s new Recreation Supervisor.
Audit Update:
Superintendent of Finance Karen LaPointe reported that the 2025-2026 audit fieldwork was completed between September 29 and October 1. The final draft is expected to be presented to the Board at the December 16, 2025 meeting.
