Meeting Summary and Briefs: Mokena Community Public Library District for Nov. 25, 2025
Mokena Community Public Library District Meeting | Nov. 25, 2025
The Mokena Community Public Library District Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, to handle financial ordinances and review administrative reports. President Joseph Cirelli called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Trustees Erin Minh was absent.
The board approved the annual tax levy and a grant application while postponing action on a new law enforcement interaction policy.
Trustee Appointment Imminent:
Following an Executive Session, the board announced it will extend an offer to a candidate to fill the current trustee vacancy. The selected individual is expected to be sworn in at the December 16, 2025, meeting.
Policy on Law Enforcement Deferred:
The board discussed adopting a formal procedural guideline for staff regarding law enforcement requests for patron information. Director Palmer consulted legal counsel on the matter. However, trustees decided that adopting a new policy at this moment might “inadvertently draw attention to an issue that has not directly involved the Library.” The board chose to take no action but will review the legal guidance and revisit the topic later.
Baker and Taylor Closure:
During trustee comments, the board thanked the staff for their agility in managing collection development despite the “unexpected closure” of book vendor Baker and Taylor. The library is currently utilizing Amazon for material purchases.
