The Mokena Fire Protection District Board of Trustees received a detailed status report on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, regarding the operational readiness of the district’s vehicles and buildings.
Deputy Chief Rick Campbell reported that Engine 92, based out of Station 2, is back in service. The vehicle had been experiencing an intermittent problem where the fire pump failed to engage due to a faulty transmission solenoid and internal transmission harness.
Work continues on Truck 92, which is undergoing significant repairs. Campbell stated that the aerial ladder lift and elevation cylinders are scheduled for completion the week of December 15. Following that, a new Allison transmission and Cummins motor will be installed. The truck will also receive new steering gears and links. Chandler Services is scheduling the truck to be fully completed by the end of December.
regarding facilities, Campbell noted that the bunk room project at Station 2 is nearing completion, with a new alerting system scheduled for installation this week. He credited the “efforts and talent of the shift crew members that worked tirelessly on this project,” noting their contribution to its success.
Additionally, heating repairs were necessary at Station 2, where two bay heaters were replaced due to faulty control boards and age. The approximate cost for the heating repairs is $4,000.
