Mokena Fire Protection District Meeting | December 9, 2025
The Mokena Fire Protection District Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, to handle year-end business, including the approval of bills and a new fee ordinance. The board approved the monthly bills totaling $207,361.12.
The board entered into a closed session at 7:40 p.m. to discuss personnel matters and returned to open session at 8:10 p.m. No action was taken following the closed session, and the meeting was adjourned immediately thereafter.
Hiring Process Update:
Chief Joe Cirelli reported that the Board of Fire Commissioners has posted a final eligibility list with five candidates. However, the commission determined that the first two candidates failed the background examination. Consequently, the district has contacted the third candidate to begin the background examination process.
Budget Preparation:
The district is preparing for the upcoming fiscal year. According to the calendar and checklist review, the budget process for the Fiscal Year ending in 2027 is scheduled to begin in January.
Mokena Miracles:
Trustee Ken Blank used the trustee report to thank the Fire District for its assistance with “Mokena Miracles.” He and other trustees also exchanged holiday greetings, wishing the community a Merry Christmas and a safe holiday season.
Mutual Aid Appreciation:
The district received a thank you letter from the Elwood Fire Protection District. Mokena crews provided mutual aid assistance in mitigating a complex call involving a building fire on November 17, 2025.
Apprenticeship Program:
Chief Cirelli noted that administration has begun work on a proposed apprenticeship program. More updates on this initiative are expected over the next several months.
