Article Summary: The Will County Board approved a series of heavy infrastructure contracts, highlighted by a nearly $1.6 million bridge replacement in Green Garden Township and a $959,000 roadway improvement project in New Lenox.

Public Works Contracts Key Points:

  • “D” Construction, Inc. was awarded a $1,596,116.16 contract to replace the Scheer Road bridge over Forked Creek in Green Garden Township.

  • Northern Builders was awarded a $959,625 agreement for roadway improvements on Laraway Road in New Lenox to facilitate a new commercial warehousing development.

  • The board approved several land acquisition agreements for the ongoing widening of Weber Road and Gougar Road.

  • Northern Contracting, Inc. received a $317,671 contract for countywide guardrail maintenance.

The Will County Board on Thursday, March 19, 2026, greenlit a multi-million-dollar slate of public works contracts aimed at upgrading rural bridges, accommodating industrial growth, and maintaining existing infrastructure across the county.

Operating through its consent agenda, the board unanimously approved Resolution #26-078, awarding a contract to Coal City-based “D” Construction, Inc. at a total cost of $1,596,116.16. The project entails the complete removal of the existing bridge on Scheer Road over Forked Creek in Green Garden Township. Crews will construct a new single-span concrete beam bridge, install new full-depth hot-mix asphalt pavement approaching the bridge, and reconstruct the aggregate shoulders and guardrails. The project is funded through the Road District’s allotment of Motor Fuel Tax funds and County Bridge Tax funds.

The board also approved Resolution #26-084, authorizing a construction agreement with Northern Builders for improvements on Laraway Road from Cherry Hill Road to Nelson Road in New Lenox. The $959,625 project will widen the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane roadway with a center barrier median to accommodate a new commercial warehousing development. The improvements will also include modernization of traffic signals at the intersection of Gougar Road.

In preparation for future road expansions, the board authorized several professional services agreements for right-of-way acquisitions. This included Resolution #26-079, a $353,650 contract with Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc. to secure appraisals and negotiations for 43 parcels along Weber Road from Airport Road to 135th Street.

Additionally, the board approved Resolution #26-076, awarding a $317,671 contract to Northern Contracting, Inc. for countywide guardrail maintenance, funded via Motor Fuel Tax funds.
