Pritzker pauses data center tax credits
Gov. J.B. Pritzker has ordered the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to pause data center tax credits, starting July 1.
Pritzker’s move follows The Center Square’s report on Thursday, detailing the state legislature’s decision to not advance data center regulation during the spring session that ended on Monday morning. A statement from the governor’s office said existing incentive agreements under the data center investment program will be honored, including those entered with DCEO before July 1, 2026.
Ex-county board member Ammons indicted for unemployment fraud
A former Champaign County Board member has been indicted on three counts of wire fraud for allegedly defrauding the U.S. Department of Labor and Illinois Department of Employment Security in 2020 and 2021. Titianna Ammons of Urbana is accused of receiving unemployment insurance benefits while she was working for the county board and other entities. Ammons is the daughter of Champaign County clerk Aaron Ammons and Illinois state Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana. Titianna Ammons was summoned to appear in federal court on June 11.
Judge sentences dark web drug dealer to 26 years
A San Jose, California man has been sentenced to more than 26 years in prison for distributing drugs through a dark web marketplace. A federal jury convicted Darren Hughes, 39, on drug trafficking charges in November 2025. Prosecutors say Hughes’ Nemesis Market processed more than 400,000 orders for stimulants, opioids and other controlled substances from 2021 to 2024.
