Meeting Briefs: Frankfort Square Park District for June 12, 2025

Spread the love

The Frankfort Square Park District Board of Commissioners formally adopted its annual Budget and Appropriation Ordinance on June 12, a key legal step that sets the district’s spending authority for the fiscal year. The board also approved an updated Fund Balance Policy to guide its financial reserves.

Work is now underway at Hunter Prairie Park after Will County granted a permit for the major redevelopment project. The district’s other large projects are also moving forward, with the new dance studios at The Square now complete and work beginning on a new practice area at Square Links Golf Course.

The board also learned that a local developer, Crana Homes, will donate land and playground equipment for a new park in its Tinley Park development at 191st Street and 80th Avenue.

District Approves $750 Sponsorship for LWSR Foundation: The board voted to provide a $750 sponsorship for the Lincoln-Way Special Recreation Foundation’s annual golf outing fundraiser on July 11. The district has been a consistent supporter of the event, which helps fund programs and services for individuals with disabilities in the community.

State Law Prohibits Golf Cart Use on Streets: Following a resident inquiry at the May meeting, Executive Director Audrey Marcquenski reported that state law does not permit golf carts to be operated on public streets in the area. She confirmed this after contacting the Frankfort Township Road District, the Village of Frankfort, and the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

Adult Open Gym Discussion: Commissioner Phil Cherry proposed exploring an adult open gym night for residents 35 and older, suggesting Fridays for basketball and field hockey. The board discussed the idea, noting the gym at The Square could be a suitable venue. District staff will look into the matter further.

Summer Recreation Programs Underway: The district’s summer programs are in full swing. Summer Day Camp and Early Childhood Camp have both begun, with the latter reporting record-high participation that may require splitting the camp into two groups. The summer concert series at the Island Prairie Park bandshell is set to begin on June 24 with a performance by the band 28Days.

Thank You Notes Received: The park district received an email of appreciation from the Mike Kasper Invitational Golf Outing for a donation of a foursome of golf to its fundraiser supporting the Glenn J. Oskvarek Memorial Foundation. The district also received thank you notes from the recipients of its 2025 college scholarships.
