Village of Mokena Board of Trustees Meeting | October 13, 2025

Article Summary: The Mokena Village Board has awarded a $204,888 contract to Dahme Mechanical Industries Inc. to replace three aging pumps at the village’s wastewater treatment plant. The project addresses critical infrastructure needs and follows a similar replacement of three other pumps in 2023.

Wastewater Pump Contract Key Points:

  • The board approved a contract for $204,888 to replace Return Activated Sludge (RAS) pumps one through three.

  • The winning bidder was Dahme Mechanical Industries Inc. of Arlington Heights, which submitted the lowest of three bids.

  • The project follows the 2023 replacement of pumps four through six, which cost approximately $178,290.

The Mokena Village Board on Monday, October 13, 2025, approved a contract for $204,888 to replace essential equipment at its wastewater treatment plant. The board awarded the contract to Dahme Mechanical Industries Inc. of Arlington Heights to replace the plant’s first three Return Activated Sludge (RAS) pumps.

Public Works Director Dan Peloquin informed the board that the pumps, which recycle heavy, viscous fluids back into the water treatment process, have reached the end of their operational life and require replacement. This project is the second phase of a complete overhaul of the system, following the replacement of RAS pumps four through six in 2023 at a cost of $178,290.

The village received three bids for the current project. The bid from Dahme Mechanical was the lowest but came in approximately 8% over the budgeted amount of $190,000, which Peloquin attributed to rising costs.

“We have seen the cost increases,” Peloquin said, comparing the current bid to the lower cost of the first phase of the project in 2023. He noted that his staff was confident in Dahme Mechanical’s qualifications, as the company has completed similar work for other municipalities.

The board voted unanimously to approve the bid and award the contract, ensuring the continued operational reliability of the village’s wastewater treatment facility.
