MOKENA, IL – The Mokena Fire Protection District will upgrade critical firefighting equipment after being awarded two grants totaling approximately $160,000, officials announced at the board meeting on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
Fire Chief Joe Cirelli reported that the district was awarded a highly competitive Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for approximately $150,000. Additionally, Deputy Chief Rick Campbell noted that the district was informed of a second award of approximately $10,000 from the Enbridge Safe Community First Responder Grant.
The combined funding will be used to replace all nozzles and fire hoses on the district’s fire apparatus, a project with an estimated total cost of $160,000.
“We are excited to report that we have been awarded the Assistance for Firefighters Grant,” Chief Cirelli stated in his report. “This grant is for the purchase of much needed replacement fire hose, nozzles and appliances.”
The district will be working with Air One to begin the process of replacing the equipment.
